President's Message

By David Sheen

Dear CBC members and friends,

Happy New Year to you all! (恭賀新禧))  The year 2007 sure flew by quickly.  I cannot believe it has been nearly three months since our installation luncheon back in last October.

I would first like to mention that CBC and SBCC had another successful and fun Christmas Party at Aegis Gardens in December. I would like to thank all the directors and volunteers who helped us make another unforgettable joint event. I would also like to give our immediate past

president, Steve Cho, our gratitude for being such a wonderful and jolly “Santa Claus” once again. Our Santa sure has brought lots of gifts and laughter to the seniors.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their holidays and is ready for new and exciting adventures in 2008.

As the Chinese community all around the world will be celebrating the Year of Rat this upcoming Chinese New Year, China will be hosting its very first Olympic in world's history!

Let’s not forget that 2008 is also our country’s Presidential Election year.  Needless to say, there is a good possibility that America may be having its very first female or African-American president by the end of this year. What an exciting change that we may be witnessing very shortly!

As we move forward into another new year, CBC will be supporting and sponsoring a number of community events and activities in February and March.  Here is a sample of upcoming events:

Saturday, February 2, 2008: Ohlone College Green Tie Gala — Several CBC Board of Directors will be participating in this gala in connection with the celebration of Ohlone College’s new “Green” campus opening in Newark.

Saturday, February 16, 2008: Chinese New Year Celebration at Fremont Main Library — CBC will once again partner with Fremont Library and South Bay Chinese Club to host a Chinese New Year Celebration at Fremont Main Library.  This will be a wonderful event for all of our members and their family to attend.  Entertainment will include music, dances, and various traditional Chinese arts and crafts.

Sunday, February 17, 2008: Chinese New Year Dinner Event—Fremont Rotary Club and F.U.N. Rotary Club will be hosting its annual Chinese New Year Dinner and Fundraising event at the Mayflower Restaurant in Union City.  CBC members are invited to join this dinner event.

Friday, February 22, 2008: Fremont Education Foundation's Annual "Excellence in Education" Gala — CBC will be a sponsoring organization at Fremont Education Foundation’s Annual Gala.  This year FEF will be honoring Dirk Lorenz and Lee Glover.  Many of CBC Officers and Directors will be attending this event.

Saturday, March 15, 2008: Third Annual “Black Tie and Tennis Shoe” Gala presented by The Exchange Club of Fremont — CBC will be sponsoring this fun event, which is hosted by the Exchange Club of Fremont.  Proceeds received at this event will benefit Life Eldercare’s Meals on Wheels, the Fremont Teen Center, and CAPA (a local child abuse prevention center).

Saturday, March 29, 2008: CBC’s 16th Annual Spring Celebration — CBC will be having our annual fundraiser event at the Fremont Marriott Hotel this year.  This elegant dinner event is CBC’s largest annual fundraising event and raises the majority of CBC’s funds that are used throughout the fiscal year to support our community’s local programs.

If you are interested in joining any of these events, please feel free to contact our Executive Director for further details. Kathy Jang can be reached at (510) 790-0740 or by email. Other CBC contact information is listed here. We would like to invite all CBC members and friends to come join us.

Please remember that CBC is here to serve you and our community at large. Please feel free to make any suggestions as how we can better serve our community by making our sponsored events more enjoyable.  Finally, I send my very best wishes to all our members, friends, and family for a happy and prosperous new year.

Warmest Regards,

沈 建 飛
