2014 Spring Celebration - President's Gala Message

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the CBC Board, Staff and Members, I welcome you all to our 22nd Spring Celebration Gala - “Year of the Horse – Blazing the Trail to Success 駿馬奔騰”. Wish all of you success in whatever you set your mind and heart to do in this special year.

What is success? Since it is the Year of the Horse, maybe we can draw some lessons of success from a few traits of a good horse which enable it to run fast and far to reach its destination.

From watching the movie “War Horse”, I could see 4 traits in a good horse – Spirit, Stamina, Strength and Speed. This horse has a feisty yet coachable spirit which allows it to learn, adapt and work under changing environments; stamina to endure the distance and hardships; strength to carry tough and heavy load; and speed to run fast even on uneven paths and jump over unexpected obstacles.

Further, a good horse needs to have a clear sense of Direction; unwavering Determination; and unfailing Dedication in order to be successful.

Imagine a horse charging aimlessly without direction. It will not be able to arrive anywhere even if it has great energy and is running at full speed. Or, if the horse is galloping in the right direction, but lacks strength or endurance, neither will it attain its goal.

We may be like a horse that feels too old to run sometimes; too tired to blaze new trails; too powerless to make necessary changes; too frustrated and hopeless to see the next step; too weak to stand up to fight ..……. I prayerfully hope that everyone will have the wisdom and courage to learn from the traits of a good horse and develop strength to overcome.

I also hope that CBC, as a group of citizens who seek to make our community better, will be able to be there for you, as well as for each other, so that we can team up to run the course. While one horse may be able to pull the weight of 7,000 pounds, 2 horses will be able to pull 24,000 to 32,000 pounds!

In this Year of the Horse, we welcome you to partner with CBC in its effort to build up each other, and build up the community for a success that has a lasting and meaningful impact.

Sincerely,

Ivy Wu 吳葦
